Cupid: All I’m saying is, a nobody like Valerian Nova doesn’t become the most powerful man in Waffle Creek by developing software. You only get that kind of power by cutting deals with people that know how to work 

Ume: What exactly are you getting at?

Cupid: Nova is a dangerous man. I don’t want you, or me for that matter, to turn up in some ditch with a bullet in our head. You understand what I’m sayin?

Ume: Loud and clear.

Cupid: And you still want to do this?

Ume: More than ever.

Cupid: [groans] Alright, kid. I’ll talk to the Captain. Until I get his approval, don’t do anything stupid, you hear?

Ume: Yeah, I hear you…. and Cupid…?

Cupid: Yeah?

Ume: Thanks.

Cupid: This girl you’re doing this for, she better be worth it.

Ume: The whole reason why everything is jacked up is because of what happened to Fox. If I can just give her some closure, maybe… she’ll go back to being how she used to be.

Cupid: Look, don’t get me wrong. What happened was tragic, just awful. That kid didn’t deserve to die like that, but the trail is dead. We had one suspect and that’s a dead end.

Ume: He could still be connected somehow. Valerian Nova is the only person who had any real motive.

Cupid: He also has an airtight alibi, so good luck proving that.

Ume: You could help me?’

Cupid: Do you even know what can of worms you’re getting ready to open by digging this all up?

Ume: What do you mean?

Ume: No way! Do you know how hard it is to find a good one of those? There’s so many to things to think about. Child to teacher ratios, curriculum, what is their policy on snacks–

Cupid: Geeze, sorry I asked. I get it, trust me. But is it really bad when you consider Provence’s current situation? Being bounced between your friends whenever her mother is too unstable to take care of her isn’t exactly ideal.

Ume: …I see your point. That’s why I feel like solving Fox’s case is my only option…

Cupid: [shakes head] I hate to break it to you, but will it really do any good?

Ume: Worse… she’s regressing again. 

Cupid: How bad is it this time?

Ume: She hasn’t left her room since Sunday. She won’t even come out to see Provence anymore. I had to take her to the Harp’s this morning.

Cupid: Maybe it’s time to look into daycare?
