Eilif: Hello little bird. It’s so nice of you to join me in the realm of the living. Does this mean that you have reconsidered my offer?

Flora: Perhaps. I have a condition.

Eilif: A condition? How bold of you.

Flora: There is someone… I need you to promise me that no harm will come to them no matter what.

Eilif: A member of The Rebellion, I presume?

Flora: Do I have your word?

Eilif: Hmm, you are an intriguing girl. Fine. I will give you my word.

Slap.

Flora: Just what the hell do you think you’re doing?!

Rune: I don’t know. You said… you thought about it. That we kissed in the dream so I just thought–

Flora: Well you thought wrong!

Rune: I get that now. I’m sorry!

Flora: You better be! I can’t believe you would misread the situation so horribly. I’m heading back. Don’t follow me!

Flora: Don’t be stupid, of course not. I… think you were there on a mission or something but we were being watched and [talking really fast] so you got really close to whisper to me but when you touched me I was taken somewhere else where you kissed me and now every time I’m around you I can only see that and–

Rune: Did you like it?

Flora: Excuse me, that’s entirely beside that point–

Rune: I guess you aren’t giving me much of a choice here.

Flora: Wait, don’t you–

For a moment, her whole world fell away. Her skin was on fire with excitment and she wanted nothing more than to wrap herself up in the warmth of that moment for eternity. But that moment was fleeting at best and in the back of her mind she heard the whisper of words spoken to her not long before.

“The moment that this becomes more than a locked up dream inside of my head is the moment is the moment it becomes her death sentence.”

Her heart dropped into the pit of her stomach as she realised exactly the consequences of this action.

Flora: I’ve never seen Millhaven be so quiet before…

Rune: Most people aren’t crazy enough to walk around in the middle of a snowstorm.

Flora: They’re missing out. It’s beautiful here.

Rune: As much as I enjoy talking about the weather… how long are you going to avoid talking with me?

Flora: Geeze you really get to the point, don’t you? [sighs] After

Rune: It wasn’t mine, was it? That would be…embarrassing…

Flora: No! It was someone else’s. W-wait? Why would it– ohmygodRune. That’s not it at all!

Rune: Hold on! I think you have the wrong idea. I just mean… [awkward groan] it would be embarrassing to have someone know your innermost thoughts. So… if it wasn’t mine, whose was it?

Flora: …It doesn’t matter. But you were there… at a party… human.

Rune: I wasn’t always a vampire… is this why you’re avoiding me? Because that seems silly.

Rune: [pinching both cheeks] Is it so hard to believe that someone could care about you?

Flora: O-ow! Would you know knock it off already? It’s just… we barely know each other.

Rune: Hmm… we could know each other better if you would stop avoiding me.

Flora: A-avoiding you? Please. Don’t be ridiculous. Why would I be avoiding you? [uncomfortable laughter]

Rune: [leans in] You can’t even look me in the eye.

Flora: [blocks with hand] You’re imagining things. I have no reason to avoid you.

Rune: [quiet] Your hands are shaking.

Flora: It’s cold out here.

Rune: Do I frighten you?

Flora: You’re the least frightening vampire in the world, Rune.

Rune: Then what is it? Because you have left the room any time I have entered for over a week now.

Flora: I’ll talk… just… take me anywhere but here.

Rune: [pokes cheek] I don’t think that’s entirely true.

Flora: Ha! Now that’s a good joke. You’re getting better.

Rune: A joke? I’m serious. They all care about you in their own way.

Flora: Doubtful. If I wasn’t a dreamwalker, none of them would want anything to do with me.

Rune: Don’t you think you’re being a little too cynical?

Flora: Name one person who actually cares about me and not my abilities.

Rune: [gently grabs her hand and pinches her cheek] I care about you.

Flora: You’re just saying that to make me feel better.

[snowfall]

Rune: Are you trying to turn into a popsicle? Because that is what will happen if you stand out here too long.

Flora: Your jokes are horrible, Rune.

Rune: Can’t always be good at everything.

Flora: Can you name one thing you’re actually good at?

Rune: Ouch. But really, what are you doing out here? It’s freezing.

Flora: I can’t stand to be in there another minute. Having them all fuss about me day in and day out is exhausting. I can’t go anywhere…or do anything. I can’t even train. My “mental state is still too unbalanced.” I’m not made of glass, I won’t break that easily.

Rune: They’re just worried about you.

Flora: Yeah right. They’re just worried about their own agenda.

Flora: I don’t mean to interrupt… but…. can someone please tell me what happened? The last I remember I was being carried away by some vampire and then the fires started… it all went black. What happened to the vampires?

Blaze: That’s… they all got away except one.

Flora: What happened to him?

Prose: He died…

Flora: Isn’t that a good thing? One last vampire to worry about, right? Why do you all look so grim?

Gidget: [quiet] Eilif doesn’t respond kindly to the death of their vampires.

Flora: O-oh… what did they do?

Rune: They burnt the whole neighborhood to the ground.

Flora: I… I caused that?

Gidget: Hey, it’s not your fault. You were just–

Flora: I think I need some time alone to think… I’m sorry, but would you all please leave?

Gidget: Sure. Let us know if you need anything.

Blaze: We tried that…

Prose: Raven said something about… how she isn’t in her own mind right now and to find her, he would have to have some idea of where to go.

Blaze: It’s impossible to find someone in an infinite amount of realities…

Gidget: Guess we’re just playing the waiting–

Flora: [screams and grips Gidget’s hand tightly]

Gidget: Ow, ow, ow! You’re okay.

Flora: [deep breath] Sorry… Where am I?

Blaze: We took you to Gidget’s clocktower.

Flora: BLAZE! I… uh… am sorry about your house.

Prose: It’s not the first time we’ve been forced to relocate and I doubt it will be the last.

Blaze: Comes with the territory, unfortunately. In the meantime, we’ve been lucky enough that Gidget has been letting us stay here.

Gidget: For now. I can’t promise it forever. All the extra bodies are stressing Andromeda out.

Prose: How does an android get stressed out?

Gidget: Shhhhhhh, will you?

Rune: Is she going to be okay?

Blaze: It’s not really any different than after what happened in Little Water, is it? She should be okay, just give her a day or two.

Rune: It’s already been a few days… and how do you explain the seizures? I’m sure that’s not normal.

Gidget: There is a monumental difference between using your powers on a single person and using it to engulf a whole house in flames. I’d imagine that she put too much strain on her body.

Blaze: What are you proposing we do then?

Gidget: Continue to let her rest…

Rune: That’s ridiculous.

Gidget: It’s not like we have a whole lot of options here. Contrary to how your group uses me, I’m not an actual doctor. Throw in this whole walking alternate realms business and I’m way out of my league here. You’d be better off getting another dreamwalker to see if they can help.
