Aster: Ow…
Ume: I am so sorry I didn’t— Aster?
Aster: Ume?
Aster: Ow…
Ume: I am so sorry I didn’t— Aster?
Aster: Ume?
Aster: Whoa!
[thud]
Altair: What’s wrong baby?
Eto: Big fish scawy.
Altair: Don’t worry sweet, it can’t hurt you.
Eto: You sure?
Altair: Promise. It’s been a long day. Are you ready to go home yet?
Eto: Yeah. I sleepy.
Altair: Okay. Say goodbye to the fishies.
Eto: Buh-bye fishies.
Altair: Things with Ume were always…complicated.
Clover: That sounds exhausting.
Altair: It kind of was… but not all relationships are like that. Sometimes they are amazing and effortless and you wonder how you ever made it up until that point without that person because the world seems much, much brighter.
Clover: You’re talking about Sirius, aren’t you?
Altair: It doesn’t matter anymore, does it? Even if I am, it’s not like I can ever have that again. [deep sigh] Can we… just enjoy ourselves here? I don’t want to talk about this anymore.
Clover: Yeah… sure. I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to–
Altair: It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.
Altair: What’s that supposed to mean?
Clover: Doesn’t it get exhausting, compromising who you are to benefit another person?
Altair: I think you’ve got the wrong idea about all of this.
Clover: Maybe you’re just in denial. Whenever you are with Ume you always seemed like a muted version of yourself.
Clover: You just had to take that away from me, didn’t you?
Altair: Real talk though: don’t you ever get lonely?
Clover: Sometimes. I just don’t think I’m the “relationship” type. There are all of these expectations you have to live up to. I don’t want to have to edit myself to fit what someone else wants.
Altair: It’s not always like that.
Clover: Are you sure about that?
Altair: Guess we’re doomed to die old spinsters.
Clover: Maybe we should go to the pet store after this.
Altair: A pet store? Have all the fish gone to your head?
Clover: I figure if we’re going to be spinsters we’re going to need cats.
Altair: Please, Clover. We both know you’re a dog person.
Clover: So, what are you going to do now?
Altair: Oh berry, can we go like one outing without talking about my trainwreck of a love life?
Clover: At least you have one. I’m living vicariously through you right now.
Altair: Har, har. Well, I think it’s your turn now. I think I’m done.
Clover: That requires me actually socializing with human beings other than you.
Provence: What are you doing down there you silly goose?
Eto: Fishy!
Provence: Do you want to go see the sharks?
Eto: CHOMP!
Provence: I’ll take that as a yes. [giggles]
