Altair: You’re right though. I’m not going to do anything. As much as this hurts to learn about, I appreciate that you are being honest with me. It doesn’t seem like that’s a courtesy that anyone else has granted me.

Sirius: Glad to have been of service.

Altair: I still don’t quite understand why you’re doing this though. What could you possibly gain from all of this?

Sirius: I find you interesting.

Altair: … isn’t this risky, though? Telling me all of this. I do happen to live with the detective whose files you’ve commandeered. What’s to say I won’t just turn you over to him?

Sirius: Call it a hunch, but I don’t think you will.

Altair: That’s putting a lot of faith in a person you barely know.

Sirius: I know a lot more about you than you realize.

Altair: That’s just fudging creepy.

Altair: What is it that you do for my father anyway…?

Sirius: Hmm… I guess you could say I’m a fixer of sorts. If there’s a problem, I take care of it. It’s mostly cleaning up other’s messes.

Altair: Are those problems… people?

Sirius: Sometimes.

Altair: [nervous laugther] Sounds like a bad mob movie.

Sirius: That’s not an entirely inaccurate way to look at it…

Sirius: Are you okay?

Altair: I feel like my whole life has been a lie… I know you told me all of this the other day but seeing it on paper like this. It makes it too real. I guess I was hoping it’s some kind of a cruel joke…

Sirius: What purpose would it even serve for me to make any of this up?

Altair: I don’t know… I just… wish it wasn’t. It feels surreal. Like it’s someone else’s life I’m reading about.

Sirius: He isn’t the only one close to you involved.

Altair: …you’re talking about Foxglove, aren’t you? There’s no way. Fox was…

Sirius: Foxglove Glade was Valerian Nova’s top guy. There was nothing that boy couldn’t get his hands on.

Altair: …you’re lying. You have to be.

Sirius: Don’t you think it’s a little strange… all of those years being kept away from the world and then suddenly, there he is?

Altair:

Sirius: You meeting Foxglove wasn’t an accident. It was planned. He was meant to keep you complaisant, be your friend, keep you from doing anything stupid. But that’s not really how things turned out, is it?

Altair: A-and you? Where do you fall in all of this? Another way to keep me, what was it you said? Complaisant? [heavy sigh] You know what? Don’t answer that. I don’t think I want to know. Not now anyway.

Sirius: Here’s a hard truth about the world, Altair: the biggest paychecks don’t always come from the most kosher of places. People will pay a lot of money to keep information out of the wrong hands.. or to obtain information for that matter.

Altair: I-I… what kind of information?

Sirius: That depends. A lot of the time… the easiest way to get rid of evidence is to make it like that evidence disappear.

Altair: A-are… you serious? My dad really deals with that?
