Fable: Just where do you think you’re going?
[crash]
Fable: Just where do you think you’re going?
[crash]
Iedas: Hello there sweeties. So nice of you to come out and play with. [giggles]
Prose: [whispering] I’ll take care of her, go check on Flora.
Iedas: Oooh. I’ve always wanted a puppy of my own to play with. We’re going to have so much fun together.
Prose: I guess you’re right.
Blaze: I’m always right.
[distant screaming]
Prose: Something feels off.
Blaze: You checked the area before we all went to bed, didn’t you?
Prose: Of course I did.
Blaze: Then there’s nothing to worry about.
Prose: Doesn’t it seem almost… too quiet?
Blaze: So you don’t hear anything. What about scents? Anything strange?
Prose: No… but…
Blaze: There’s nothing to worry about then, is there?
Prose: Blaze, are you still awake?
Blaze: [groggy] I’m not sleeping… you’re sleeping.
Eilif: I had desired for this to be done with quickly, but that fool couldn’t deal with such a simple task.
Fable: What do you propose we do?
Eilif: I think it’s time I send someone far more competent to deal with this matter. Are you up for the job, my loyal servant?
Fable: Consider it as good as done.
Fable: Isn’t there already a rebellion?
Eilif: Please. Blaze Turq and his band of misfits pose no threat to me. If they have the girl, on the other hand, that is when they become dangerous.
Fable: Do we even know if she is really that powerful? All we have to on are rumors at this point. There is nothing to say that she will be able to defeat our armies.
Eilif: Have you not been listening? Her powers on her own mean very little. It’s what she represents. Ideas are a powerful thing. We cannot let word of her existence spread farther than it already has.
Fable: A simple yet effective strategy.
Eilif: For now. There is one thing that can unravel all of that I have worked so hard to build.
Fable: And that would be?
Eilif: Hope, my dear. Caught early enough it can be harmless, but if not dealt with quickly it spreads like a disease infecting everyone around. When people feel hope they feel powerful. When they feel powerful they rebel.
Fable: What is so important about this girl, anyway?
Eilif: How do you think I have stayed in power as long as I have, Fable?
Fable: Superior leadership abilities?
Eilif: [laughs] Fear. I’ve kept power this long because I have all of Millhaven quivering at my feet. The fear of what I will do to them if they dare step a toe out of a line keeps them in check.
Eilif: Are you here to report on Shade’s recovery?
Fable: He is still resting underground, I am afraid.
Eilif: He can stay there for eternity as far as I concerned. That incompetent fool, he couldn’t even confirm whether or not the rebellion has gotten their hands on the girl or not. The longer he stays there the less I have to deal with him and his insufferable ego.
